The 24 Hour Bag-a-thon, an idea pitched to the Flag the Bag environmental group, ran two consecutive years from local community hub Kapai Kaiti. It invited the community to come and make bags to distribute for free to the public. Over 100 people showed up over the 24 hours to make bags, provide kai, entertain the work force.

It became an incredibly uniting event and brought all corners of the community together for an environmental cause to ditch plastic shopping bags. Nearly 800 bags were giving out and can still be seen around the shops today.
